Bryan Bogardus, President

Bryan Bogardus has 21 years of experience in the workers’ compensation insurance industry and a proven track record of leading organizations through challenging economic conditions.  He worked for SeaBright Insurance Company for four years in a variety of capacities, including senior resident vice president, Western Region; senior vice president, Underwriting Operations and senior vice president, Corporate Operations.  Prior to joining SeaBright, Bryan worked for Safeco Insurance Company for 17 years in a variety of capacities including region underwriting manager, region sales manager, assistant vice president of workers compensation, and commercial division vice president.

Bryan earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, majoring in risk management and insurance, from the University of Georgia.

 

Ronald D. Field, COO, Interim President

Ron Field is a senior insurance executive with over 35 years of leadership experience in claims administration, underwriting and agency management. As Executive Vice President of Golden Eagle for Liberty Mutual, Ron was responsible for all claims administration. During this time, Ron instituted a number of claims cost containment features focused on medical case management, litigation avoidance and fraud detection. Most recently, Ron was responsible for all of Golden Eagle's operations in Southern California. Ron has served as a Board member of the Association of California Insurance Companies, the California Insurance Guarantee Association, the California Workers Compensation Institute and as a Director of the San Diego Downtown Partnership.

Ron holds a BA from the University of California, Fullerton, and holds the Certified Compensation Specialist designation.


Patrick J. Persse, CFO

Pat Persse has more than 20 years of insurance and reinsurance accounting and finance experience.  Pat joined CompWest from the California State Automobile Association (CSAA) where he was Vice President, Controller and Senior Financial Officer for all CSAA companies, including the Inter-Insurance Bureau.  Prior to joining CSAA, Pat was Controller, personal insurance division, for the California Casualty Group for five years and also held the position of assistant controller at GTE Reinsurance Company in Bermuda for six years. 

Pat is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and obtained his CPA at Coopers & Lybrand in Atlanta, Georgia.  He holds a BBA accounting degree from Georgia State University.  Pat is a current member of the Georgia and California Society of CPA's and the American Institute of CPA's.  He served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano.


Heather Allan, SPHR, Human Resources Officer

Heather has over 25 years of experience in human resources.  Prior to joining CompWest, Heather led a consulting practice establishing human resource departments for start-up enterprises.  Heather has worked as a key member of the management team of multi-million dollar firms and Fortune 500 companies in a wide variety of industries including insurance, financial services, technology and health care sectors.

Heather holds a degree from San Francisco State University. She is a member of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), the Northern California Human Resources Association (NCHRA). She is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).

Lynn L. Ross, Marketing Vice President

Lynn Ross has 20 years of insurance experience in both the insurance carrier and insurance broker sectors. Lynn specialized in property and casualty business development through the direction and coordination of sales, underwriting, marketing, actuarial, loss control and claim disciplines. Lynn joined CompWest Insurance Company in October of 2006 as the Director of Underwriting for Southern California. Prior to coming to CompWest Insurance Company Lynn was Vice President of Sales and Operations at Western Growers Insurance Services.  Prior to joining WGA Lynn was Vice President at Golden Eagle Insurance Company where she created the Managed Program Division. 

Over the past twenty years Lynn worked at Continental Insurance Company and various insurance agencies in Milwaukee, Chicago, New York and Florida.

Lynn is active with the IBA and was awarded the Insurance Company Professional of the year by IBA in 2004.

Christopher Folkman, Managing Director - CompWeb


Chris Folkman is a managing director at CompWest, responsible for all distribution, underwriting, and product development involving the company’s online placement facilities.  He has experience on both the broker and carrier sides of insurance, and is an expert in third party commercial coverage and claims.  Prior to CompWest, he was a consultant at Marsh Inc.'s risk consulting practice where he advised Fortune 500 Companies on the negotiation of insurance settlements for complex, multi-year environmental liability claims.

Chris is a graduate of Stanford University.  He holds the Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), and Associate in Insurance Services (AIS) designations.

Sean Pepper, Northern Operations Underwriting Manager

Sean Pepper has 12 years of insurance experience in both the carrier and broker sectors.  Sean was part of the CompWest founding team and wrote the company’s first policy.  Before CompWest he was a Senior Underwriter for Liberty Mutual’s property & casualty middle market, and spent a year working as an Account Manager at Tanner Insurance Brokers.  He has been essential to the growth of CompWest, and a key member of the production underwriting team.   Sean has continued to grow and has been working as the Underwriting Manager for our Northern California team for over two years.

Sean has his BA from California State University at Chico.

Trevor McIntosh, Southern Operations Underwriting Manager

Trevor McIntosh joined CompWest as an underwriter and quickly rose through the ranks to his current position of Underwriting Manager, where he is responsible for production, retention, and broker relations.  He helped transition the underwriting department to a paperless work environment, and played an instrumental role in shaping CompWest’s market-leading position in Southern California.  Prior to joining CompWest, he worked for a major regional MGA. 

Trevor holds a BA in Finance from Chapman University.

John M. Gagan, Director of Corporate Underwriting

John Gagan serves as Director of Corporate Underwriting with a focus on the discipline and consistency of our superior underwriting tradition.  John maintains underwriting procedures and guidelines, and contributes to corporate strategic planning, portfolio management, regulatory compliance, underwriting audits, staff development, and product design and innovation.

John has nearly 20 years of commercial insurance underwriting experience in the workers’ compensation, casualty and reinsurance marketplaces.    John holds a B.S. in Finance and Economics from St. Mary’s College of California.

Robert A. Shatsnider, Vice President and Claims Officer

Rob Shatsnider has over 36 years of experience in Personal and Commercial lines Claims management. As Director of Worker Compensation Claims for Industrial Indemnity Insurance he was responsible for establishing the national claims organization.  Rob has also served as Workers Compensation Claims Vice President for Employer Benefits Insurance;  and most recently National Director/AVP of Workers Compensation Claims and Medical Cost Containment for Safeco Insurance, again having oversight for the national operations.  Rob has served as a Board member of the California Worker Compensation Institute, (CWCI). 

Rob holds the designation as a Chartered Property-Casualty Underwriter,(CPCU) and BA from the University of California at Northridge.

Charles B. Crowder, Managing Staff Counsel

Charles Crowder has over 25 years of experience in the insurance industry.  He successfully established and managed a SAFECO law office prior to joining staff counsel departments at Travelers, Zurich and Zenith insurance companies.  Litigation successes include winning a published appellate court case.

Charles began his career as a liability insurance claims adjuster, advancing to a supervisory position in workers’ compensation before attending law school.  He began his legal career working for a business litigation firm.      

Charles graduated cum laude with a B.A. degree from Pomona College in Claremont, and was also elected to Phi Beta Kappa.  He earned his J. D. degree from UCLA School of Law.  Memberships include California State Bar and past president of the Association of California House Counsel.

Thomas D. Logan, ARM, CSP, Loss Control Manager

 

Tom Logan is a Certified Safety Professional with over 25 years of experience.  He brings a wealth of knowledge to his policyholders’ safety and health issues and has earned a reputation for providing skilled and practical guidance on workers’ compensation cost control.

Tom is a professional member of the American Society of Safety Engineers and is a past President of the Valley Coastal Chapter of the ASSE.  He was selected the 2002-03 ASSE Region II Safety Professional of the Year. 

Tom holds a Bachelors of Science in Environmental Health from California State University Northridge. He also earned the ARM designation and has served as an instructor for ARM 55, Essentials of Risk Control.

Linda Ramirez, Claims Manager

Linda has 20 years of experience in workers’ compensation insurance, with prior experience in office management and accounting.   She began her insurance career as an adjuster for Comco Management, and later worked as a supervisor at Great States Insurance Company where she was involved in training new adjusters.  Before coming to CompWest, she worked at Golden Eagle Insurance as a branch office claims manager, and then at Liberty Mutual as a Team Manager, again involved in training new adjusters.   

Linda has her BA from California State University at Fullerton.

Bill Van Kuran, Senior Claims Consultant

Bill has 30 years of experience in property/casualty claims management. He began as a Field Claims Adjuster for Liberty Mutual, eventually managing branch office claims operations for Liberty in both Northern and Southern California. He also has experience as the Home Office Claims Manager for a regional specialty carrier. Bill was the original Claims Manager for CompWest’s Orange County and San Francisco offices. He currently oversees the SIU, the Claims system and provides direction on serious losses.


Bill has a BA from Pomona College, Claremont.
